What Is EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is an Implantable Collamer® Lens (ICL) placed between your iris and cornea. This form of vision correction works similarly to a removable contact lens to help correct vision in patients with nearsightedness or astigmatism. However, unlike traditional contact lenses the EVO ICL is a permanent solution to vision problems.

“I can’t say enough good things about this practice”

“I’ve been seeing Dr. Galler for several years and more recently Dr. Z. I can’t say enough good things about this practice and have consistently received excellent care. Highly recommend!”

The Process of EVO ICL

EVO ICL has been an effective method of vision correction since 1992.
EVO ICL has been an effective method of vision correction since 1992.

Consulting With Our Doctor

Meet with Dr. Galler at our Providence office to discuss the EVO ICL procedure and see if this option is right for you. He will perform a series of tests to make sure you qualify.

Preparing for Surgery

On the day of your procedure, we will administer eye drops to numb your eyes for a virtually painless experience. We will also administer pupil-dilating eye drops so our doctor can clearly see your eye structures.

Creating the Incision

A small incision is made to insert the lens between the iris and cornea. The incision is so small that sutures aren't needed after.

Inserting the Lens

Dr. Galler will fold the lens to insert it smoothly through the incision. He will then adjust the position of the EVO ICL.

Healing From Surgery

The difference in your vision is apparent almost immediately, but you will need to have someone drive you home after your procedure. Dr. Galler will give you eye drops to help the healing process.

EVO ICL vs. LASIK

EVO ICL may be right for you if you don't qualify for LASIK or are nervous about a laser vision correction procedure. Here are some key differences between the two procedures:

FAQs About EVO ICL in Providence, RI

Still comparing your options? These FAQs can help clarify when EVO ICL is the best fit and when another treatment might serve you better.

What if I already have early cataracts?

If you’ve begun to develop cataracts or are over age 50, cataract surgery with IOLs may be a better option than EVO ICL. Our team can help determine which path supports your long-term vision best.

Is EVO ICL right for younger patients?

Younger patients whose eyes are still changing may benefit more from myopia management until they’re ready for permanent vision correction.

Is EVO ICL better than refractive lens exchange?

Refractive lens exchange is often recommended for patients over 45 who want to reduce their dependence on reading glasses. EVO ICL is typically better suited for younger adults with strong prescriptions and healthy natural lenses.
